A fireworks simulcast by Alison Yip and Michelle Helene Mackenzie, commissioned by Feminist Land Art Retreat (Nicole Ondre and Vanessa Disler) for FLAR AIRWAVES.
For the 2018 Celebration of Light fireworks competition, the Contemporary Art Gallery and Feminist Land Art Retreat staged a series of interventions in the traditional viewing experience. On July 27 and August 5, the days before and after the festival, FLAR AIR flew an aerial artwork over English Bay.
A poster campaign across Downtown Vancouver promoted FLAR AIRWAVES, a webcast commissioned from three duos of musicians and artists, one for each fireworks display, broadcast live at feministlandartretreat.com from 10 pm on July 28, August 1 and August 4.
Feminist Land Art Retreat was initiated in 2010 with an advertisement, and has since produced posters, T-shirts, postcards, temporary tattoos, performances and exhibitions addressing the social and cultural models that construct ideas of femininity and nature.
